What is the history of the World Series?
The World Series began in 1903, when the Boston Americans beat the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first modern championship between the American League and National League winners. It has been played every year since, except 1904, when the New York Giants refused to take part, and 1994, when a players' strike canceled the postseason. Today it is a best-of-seven series.

What 5 teams have never won the World Series?
Entering the 2026 World Series, five of MLB's 30 franchises had never won a title: the Milwaukee Brewers, Tampa Bay Rays, San Diego Padres, Colorado Rockies and Seattle Mariners. The Mariners are the only team that has never reached the World Series. Because the 2026 Series matches the Brewers against the Rays, one of those franchises will win its first championship.

Has any team gone 4-0 in a World Series?
Yes. A four-game sweep has happened about 20 times in World Series history. The most recent came in 2012, when the San Francisco Giants swept the Detroit Tigers. Other well-known sweeps include the 1927 New York Yankees and the 2004 Boston Red Sox, whose sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals ended an 86-year championship drought.

What does 42 mean in baseball?
Number 42 honors Jackie Robinson, who broke Major League Baseball's color barrier with the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 15, 1947. MLB retired the number for every team in 1997, the first league-wide retirement in major professional sports. Every player and coach wears 42 on Jackie Robinson Day each April 15, and Mariano Rivera was the last player to wear it regularly.

Will the World Series be on regular TV?
Yes. The World Series airs on Fox, a free over-the-air broadcast network that has carried every World Series since 2000 under its contract with Major League Baseball. Viewers can watch with an antenna or through cable and streaming TV packages that include their local Fox station, and Spanish-language coverage airs on Fox Deportes.

What is the distance of an ultra marathon?
An ultramarathon is any footrace longer than the 26.2-mile marathon. The most common entry-level ultra is the 50-kilometer race, about 31 miles, followed by 50-mile, 100-kilometer and 100-mile events. Multiday races go much farther: Utah's Moab 240 covers more than 240 miles on a loop that starts and finishes in Moab.

Is a 50K an ultra marathon?
Yes. At 50 kilometers, or about 31 miles, a 50K is roughly five miles longer than a standard marathon, so it counts as an ultramarathon. It is the most common ultra distance in the United States, and many trail runners treat it as their first step beyond the marathon before trying 50-mile or 100-mile races.

Who ran 350 miles without stopping?
American ultramarathoner Dean Karnazes ran 350 miles in 2005 without stopping to sleep, finishing in about 80 hours and 44 minutes on a course in Northern California. The feat helped popularize ultrarunning in the United States, where multiday trail races such as Utah's Moab 240 now draw runners from across the country.
